בנוסף לכך הופרד שלב העיצוב משלב הייצור, ויצאו ספרי דגמים לפיהם עוצבו הרהטים.

נפתחו אולמות תצוגה, והופצו קטלוגים מסחריים לקהל הרחב.

In 1856, Englishman Owen Jones (1809-1874) first published his monument to design, the Grammar of Ornament, in installments for subscribers. For his lushly illustrated plates, Jones's design motifs drew from nineteen different cultures including the ornament of Oceania, ancient Greece and Rome, Byzantium, Renaissance Italy, and Moorish Spain. Throughout the second half of the nineteenth century, the Grammar remained an influential source book for the production of wallpaper, furniture, architectural decoration, and fabric world wide.
